NIST Cybersecurity Professional (NCSP) 800-45 Foundation Certificate

NIST Cybersecurity Professional®

(NCSP®) 800‑45 Foundation Certificate

Course Description

Email remains one of the most widely used communication technologies and one of the most frequently exploited attack vectors. NIST SP 800‑45 provides authoritative guidance for securing email systems, protecting communications, and managing operational risks associated with enterprise messaging platforms.

The NCSP® 800‑45 Foundation Certificate is a 2‑day, instructor‑led course introducing participants to the principles and practices of email security as defined in NIST SP 800‑45. This course explains how to secure mail servers, protect email clients, manage authentication and encryption, and align email security practices with NIST CSF 2.0.

Participants learn how to apply foundational email security concepts across systems, networks, and users, preparing them for more advanced NCSP® operational and infrastructure security training.

What You Will Learn

Participants gain foundational knowledge and best practices for designing, implementing, and operating secure email systems, covering mail server administration, client security, encryption standards, and malware prevention. You will learn:

  • How NIST SP 800‑45 aligns with NIST CSF 2.0 and supports enterprise messaging security.

  • The core concepts of email architectures, protocols, and security controls.

  • How to secure mail servers, clients, and supporting services.

  • How to implement authentication, encryption, and anti‑spoofing protections.

  • How to monitor, log, and validate email security.

  • The role of continuous improvement in maintaining secure messaging environments.
