NIST Cybersecurity Professional®

(NCSP®) 800‑204 Foundation Certificate

Course Description

Microservices architectures introduce distributed components, complex communication patterns, and expanded attack surfaces. NIST SP 800‑204 provides authoritative guidance for securing microservices‑based applications.

The NCSP® 800‑204 Foundation Certificate is a 2‑day, instructor‑led course introducing participants to microservices security principles and practices as defined in NIST SP 800‑204 and 800‑204A. This course explains service isolation, API security, service mesh considerations, and alignment with NIST CSF 2.0.

Participants learn how to apply foundational microservices security concepts across development, deployment, and operational environments, preparing them for more advanced NCSP® cloud, DevSecOps, and application security training.

What You Will Learn

Participants gain knowledge of NIST SP 800-204 and security strategies for microservices based applications. You will learn:

  • How NIST SP 800‑204 aligns with NIST CSF 2.0 and supports microservices security programs.

  • The core concepts of microservices architectures and distributed security.

  • How to secure APIs, service communications, and data flows.

  • How to apply service isolation and container‑based protections.

  • How to use service meshes for secure communication and policy enforcement.

  • How to integrate microservices security into DevSecOps workflows.
